2007 Community Service Project

Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980. Since its inception, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors, and entire communities. Since 1980, it has reached over 144,000 children worldwide. Their stated mission is: "We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy."

Help make a child’s wish extra special by donating a small amount of your time, supplies, and creativity by making some scrapbook pages for these wish recipients to use for recording their special gift made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

This year, the Simply Southern Scrapbook Convention and Paper Artist Expo have selected the Make a Wish Foundation, Alabama - Georgia Chapter as our community service project.

Our goal is to collect 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 8 1/2 x 11, and 12 x 12 scrapbook pages created by our very talented show attendees to combine into albums. These albums will be given to wish recipients for them to record their wish memories through pictures or journaling.

To make it easier when designing your pages, please keep this information in mind.

Greater than 50% of the wishes granted involve trips to Disney.  Disney is much more than Princesses and Mickey Mouse.  There are the Winnie the Pooh characters, Buzz Lightyear, Goofy, Donald, Stitch, Minnie Mouse, Peter Pan, Aladdin, the Mad Hatter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tom Sawyer, singing bears, train rides, roller coasters, fireworks and Indy cars to name a few of the Magic Kingdom attractions.  Many wishes are for travel, including Hawaii.  Some wishes are for room makeovers.  There are always wonderful opportunities for general sports themes, boy, girl, and teen.

All pages must be 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 8 1/2 x 11, or 12 x 12 in size  Pages must be flat enough to fit into a page protector in an album.

Opportunities to win prizes include:

  • For each (set of 10) 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 8 1/2 x11, 12 x 12 pages, turned in at the Make A Wish booth, the giver will receive 1 entry slip to complete and put into a drawing for hourly prizes to be given away.  The more pages you complete, the greater your chance to win.
  • For each new 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 8 1/2 x 11, or 12 x 12 album you donate at the booth, the giver will receive 2 entry slips to complete and put into the drawing.
